What is payroll?

Payroll is a list of employees within an organisation, which states how much they are paid/owed from that organisation. It is a reference to identify employee wages, and what employees are owed over time.

What is a payroll number?

This number is individual to each employee at an organisation, for the payroll department to distinguish between each employee and their wages. This number can be found on a payslip.

What is payroll PAYE?

If you are an employer, it is required to operate PAYE as part of your payroll system. This is a HM Revenue and Customs’ payroll system which is responsible for collecting Income Tax and National Insurance.
